UPDATE 12:02 a.m.: Most individuals objecting the shooting of Jacob Blake by Kenosha Police did so peacefully and marched from 40th Street and 28th Avenue to the Kenosha Police Department. However some picked violence. They started a number of dump trucks on fire, smashed vehicles, broke windows, and threw bleach bombs. SWAT teams reacted by releasing tear gas and blocking off the roads with armored tanks.

Blake's daddy, Jacob Blake Sr. wrote on Facebook that his son was “alive and steady.”

Guv Tony Evers released the following statement:

“Tonight, Jacob Blake was shot in the back several times, in broad daytime, in Kenosha, Wisconsin. Kathy and I join his household, buddies, and neighbors in hoping earnestly that he will not succumb to his injuries. While we do not have all of the information yet, what we understand for specific is that he is not the very first Black guy or individual to have been shot or injured or mercilessly eliminated at the hands of people in police in our state or our country.

We stand with all those who have and continue to require justice, equity, and responsibility for Black lives in our country– lives like those of George Floyd, of Breonna Taylor, Tony Robinson, Dontre Hamilton, Ernest Lacy, and Sylville Smith. And we stand versus excessive use of force and instant escalation when engaging with Black Wisconsinites.

I have said the whole time that although we need to offer our compassion, equally essential is our action. In the coming days, we will require just that of chosen officials in our state who have actually stopped working to acknowledge the racism in our state and our nation for far too long.”
